Marshals escort back to US man wanted for child porn

An Ohio man is back in the United States to face charges of child pornography after taking refuge in the Philippines last year.

The Washington DC-based Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) said registered sex offender Timothy Leonard Lantz was arrested June 20 in Kulambugan, Davao del Norte by combined forces of the Bureau of Immigration and the Philippine National Police.

Lantz arrived back on US soil Friday after being escorted by US Marshals from Manila.

Lantz is wanted on multiple child pornograpjy charges by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Cincinnati, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Columbus, OH and the US Marshals Service.

Lantz's apartment in Columbus was raided last January on the strength of a search warrant. He fled the country shortly afterward and travelled to Amsterdam and Spain before he sought refuge in the Philippines, Robert Downen, DSS public affairs chief said.

The DSS, the operating arm of the State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, is said to be the most widely-represented law enforcement organization in the world.

In 2007, it claimed to have resolved 113 international fugitive cases from over 30 countries. They are also responsible for protecting 285 US diplomatic missions around the world.
